MAC address assignments by manufacturer
MAC (Media access control) codes are six byte numbers which uniquely identify network hardware. They are sent
as part of the ethernet frame header. It is possible, using the list below to identify the manufacturer of
a given network device, and a simple packet capture program, such as described in chapter 13 of Network programming in .NET to
view what types of hardware are communicating on your network. This could be particularly useful if you are concerned
that a third party may be using your network without your knowledge.
